X
– The movie is based off one of Clamp’s most successful
mangas: X/1999.
This, so far have been the only animated film of X.
It’s the year 1999 - the Year of Destiny, and the beginning of
the end of the world. The future of the universe rests on one
young man, Kamui Shiro, who must choose sides between the
Dragons of Earth (bad guys) or the Dragons of Heaven (good guys)
- two opposing armies of psychic warriors. He alone must decide
whether humanity should be destroyed to create a purified
universe, or whether it should be protected to preserve
civilization.
REVIEW
The
first thing I noticed about X – The Movie, is the musical
score. It’s put together very beautifully. And the
theme song (Forever Love by X-Japan) actually shot to the top of
the Japanese pop charts!
Aside from the music, the animation in X was also very good.
The characters all looked great and very well animated, and the
backgrounds for this film were done by Suichi Hirata (who
designed the backgrounds for Ghost in the Shell).
The story isn’t ½ bad ether and the psychic battles were
great to watch. There was also a bit of humor thrown in
there once in a while as well, so the film doesn’t seem so
gothic and dark.
The only complaint I have about the movie is the final
battle/ending. (Don’t worry I’m not going to spoil
it). Let’s just say, it was not what I expected and it
kinda sucked!
Aside from that X was a wonderful movie, and if you were a
reader of X/1999, or enjoy psychic battles and Goth like themes,
then X marks the spot (heehee, I just made a horrible end line).
:-P
