Spring and Chaos is the new digital anime by CG master (Ping's
Favorite) Shoji Kawamori (Escaflowne, Macross Plus).
S&C is basically a biographical anime about Kenji
Miyazawa. Kenji Miyazawa was one of Japan's greatest Poet,
Teacher, Astronomer, and writer of all time. He wrote a
very famous book called "Night on the Galactic
Railroad." Which later was made into an
anime. He passed away early at the age of 37.
And because he's such a big part of Japanese history, S&C
was created to show his life to the world.
**In S&C all the characters are cats. This is because
in "Night on the Galatci Railroad," the characters
were also all cats. Also on a side note, Kenji hated
Cats.
REVIEW
I found the story in S&C to be a bit confusing. Also
certain parts made me sleepy. The anime was a bit short as
well. But all together those were the only negatives I
found of S&C.
Being done by Kawamori, Spring and Chaos is filled with
beautiful CG. Now I don't mean that crappy CG you find in
Blue Sub. What you see in Spring and Chaos is absolutely
mind blowing. I couldn't get enough of it. There is
a CG scene in the movie where you see a pond w/ a tree in the background.
Now it may sound simple but it was the best CG scene Ping has
EVER seen in his entire life. It was ssssooooo
beautiful.
Now as for animation wise, I would have to say - it's
alright. Not as great as Kawamori's work in Macross
Plus. But the art is still great.
So it basically comes to down to the CG. If your a big fan
of CG (like me) then S&C is a must see. But if you
don't really care then this may not be the anime for you, since
it is a bit confusing and boring at times. However if you
are interested in seeing the life of one of Japan's greatest
poet then go pick up this title.
